My Story
I have always been keen to support organisations that have aspirations to make the world a better place. But I'm also a pragmatist and understand how difficult it can be to create positive social change. For me, the point is to be involved in the fight for a more just, fair and positive society for all.
My fundraising career has been a joy, and at times a challenge. I have over 20 years of experience of raising income from individuals, community organisations and corporates. My strengths are encouraging supporter engagement as a way to grow voluntary income. I love working with people. Always trying to understand what motivates and engages them and I apply this passion to my fundraising services. I have worked for many charities, including in management roles at Amnesty International and VSO. Some career highlights include:
-
Project managing an international fundraising trip to Ghana, and raising £36,000 net. I was able to attend the 7-day trip, and develop closer relationships with the supporters, as well as see the impact of the work of the charity.
-
Leading a 12-person team and dealing with their hopes and fears (and occasionally tears), while being accountable to motivate them to reach an annual income target of £4 million
-
Single-handedly increasing a sporting event income stream from £50,000 to £250,000 in a few years
-
Managing large and complex events and dealing with celebrities and high profile performers including: Hugh Grant, David Shrigley, Hot Chip, HRH The Princess Royal, Juliet Stevenson and Benjamin Zephaniah.
I love supporting charities in a freelance capacity, and particularly enjoy supporting as an interim manager, developing events or fundraising strategies and considering new fundraising ideas that could be incorporated to raise more unrestricted income.
